The survey moves the price for reasons we can name

A published price is a starting price. It moves if your roof needs work first, if the scaffold is awkward, or if your consumer unit needs upgrading. Those are the exclusions listed further down this page, and your surveyor writes down which of them apply.

What is not included.

A price is only useful if the exclusions are named. These are the five things that most often add cost, and each one is confirmed at survey with a figure attached before you agree to anything.

• Roof repairs found at survey Slipped or cracked tiles, tired felt, rotten battens. Panels last decades, so it makes no sense to fit them over a roof that will need opening up in three years. We tell you what we find and price the repair separately.
• Non-standard scaffold Standard access is included. Bridging a conservatory, a road licence, restricted rear access or a three storey lift is not, and the extra is priced at survey.
• Consumer unit upgrades If your board cannot safely take the new circuits, it has to be replaced or a sub-board added. Common in houses that have not had electrical work done for a while.
• Tree work Shading kills output. If a neighbouring tree or one of yours needs reducing, that is an arborist's job, and if it is protected it needs council consent first.
• Structural work Rare, but some roofs need strengthening before they carry an array, and some batteries need a proper base or a wall that will take the weight. Where a structural engineer is needed, we say so.

None of these are discovered on the day of installation and sprung on you. They are found at survey, before you commit, and priced in writing.

What is guaranteed, and by whom.

A guarantee is only worth reading if it says how many years and names who is standing behind them, which is why the terms are written into your quotation in full rather than summarised here. There are four separate cover periods on a solar and battery installation and they are not held by the same party. Workmanship covers our labour: the fixings, the flashing, the rails, the cable runs, the isolation and the way the battery is integrated into your board, and it is insured rather than simply promised, so the cover does not depend on us still trading. The panel, battery and inverter terms are the manufacturer's, and we handle those claims for you. Battery cover is written against a retained capacity figure rather than simply working or not working, and yours is stated in the handover pack with that figure in it.

It is worth knowing which of those numbers actually matters. A solar panel is a sheet of glass with no moving parts, and it is the component that essentially never fails, which is why a long panel figure is the easiest one for anyone to advertise. What fails is the inverter, the wiring, the roof fixings, the flashing and the battery integration. Every one of those is our work rather than the manufacturer's, and every one of those sits under the workmanship term. That is the number to compare.

You can pay outright or spread the cost. We do not print monthly figures on this website, because a monthly figure without the full credit terms next to it tells you almost nothing.

After your survey, when we know the real price of your installation, you get the full terms in writing. The interest rate, the length of the agreement, the deposit, the total amount payable and the total cost of the credit. Nothing is agreed until you have read them.
