Our hosting provider records the ordinary server logs that every website generates when a page is requested. That is not storage on your device and it is not a cookie. It is covered in the privacy policy.
A cookie and local storage are not the same thing.
The words get used interchangeably, usually by people who would rather you did not look closely. The difference matters here, so it is worth two paragraphs.

A cookie is sent back to the server
A cookie is a small file your browser attaches to every request it makes to a site. That is what makes it useful for tracking: the server sees it each time, so it can recognise a returning visitor, and third party cookies let a company recognise you across other websites entirely.

Local storage stays on your device
Local storage is a note your browser keeps for one website, in your browser, on your machine. It is never attached to a request and never travels to us. The quote tool reads it back when you return to the page, and that is the only time anything reads it at all.
Both are covered by the same law, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, which is about storing or accessing information on your device by any means. So the technical distinction does not let anyone off. What matters is the next section.
Why there is no consent banner.
Those regulations require consent for storing information on your device, with one exception: where the storage is strictly necessary to provide a service the user has explicitly asked for.
Saving your quote answers is that exception. You opened the quote tool and started answering questions, which is about as explicit a request as it gets, and remembering the answers you have already given is what makes the tool work rather than what makes it profitable for us. It carries nothing about who you are, it goes nowhere, and it deletes itself after seven days or the moment you finish the quote, whichever comes first.
So there is nothing here we need your permission for, and asking permission we do not need, in a banner that hides the page, would be theatre. We would rather use the space to tell you what the installation costs.
How to get rid of it anyway
- Finish the quoteIt is deleted as soon as the quote is complete.
- WaitIt expires on its own after seven days and the tool starts fresh.
- Clear it yourselfClear site data for this site in your browser settings. In most browsers that is under privacy, then site settings or cookies and site data.
- Avoid it entirelyOpen the site in a private or incognito window. Nothing is kept when you close it.
Clearing it costs you nothing except the answers you had already given. The quote tool works exactly the same way, it just starts at the first question again.
What would change if we added analytics.
We may want to know which pages people actually read. If that day comes, here is what we commit to, written down now while it costs us nothing to commit to it.

Advertising trackers stay off Counting page views is a different thing from letting an advertising network follow you around the internet on our behalf. If we ever propose the second one, it will say so here in those words.
How this page stays true
The claim on this page is only worth anything if it is checked. Before launch we confirm that no tag manager, advertising pixel or analytics script has been added at the hosting or domain layer, and any future change ships with the update to this page in the same release.
Nothing here follows you anywhere.
You can use the quote tool, see a number, and leave without us knowing you were here or being able to find you again. That is the intended behaviour, not an oversight.
