We do not quote a savings figure before a survey, because it depends on your roof, your usage and your tariff. Your surveyor produces one calculated to the MCS method with the assumptions written down.

A standard pitched roof, tiled, with straightforward scaffold access. This is the house the published price is written against.
Erected to the eaves on the working elevation, with the hire period inside the price. Non-standard access is priced as its own line, never absorbed.
Tiles are lifted in courses where the hooks land, then set aside. Nothing is cut that does not have to be.
Fixed through to the rafters, not to the batten. Sixteen on this array. Photographed at this stage, before the rail goes on, because that is what the certification body wants to see.
The lifted courses go back over the hooks, so the roof is weathertight again before any rail is lifted up.
Two rails, bolted to the hooks and set out so the array sits 300mm clear of the ridge and the verges.
Ten 430W all black panels in two rows of five. On this roof that is 4.3 kWp. Each serial number is recorded against the design.
A hybrid inverter, usually in the loft on the gable wall, sized so a battery can be added later without replacing it. The scaffold comes down at this point, because the roof work is finished.
10kWh below the inverter on the same wall, keeping the cable run short. This is what carries the house overnight and charges on a cheap night rate.
A reversible unit, quoted separately. It cools in summer and heats in winter, and it runs on what the array is generating in the months you need it most.
Four separate cover periods run on a solar and battery installation, and they are not held by the same party. Workmanship is ours. The panels, the battery and the inverter are the manufacturer's, and we handle those claims on your behalf. Every term is written into your quotation before you agree to anything.
It is worth knowing which of those matters. A panel is a sheet of glass with no moving parts, and it is the component that essentially never fails, which is why a long panel figure is the easiest one for anyone to advertise. What fails is the inverter, the wiring, the roof fixings, the flashing and the battery integration. Every one of those is our work rather than the manufacturer's, and every one sits under the workmanship term. That is the one to compare.
After that the rate returns to 5%, which adds about £465 to a £9,300 build.

Reversible air conditioning cools in summer and heats in winter. Fitted alongside solar, it runs on power you generated rather than power you bought, in exactly the months your panels produce most.
